Adventure Camps

High School Adventure Camps offer activities beyond resident camp. Adventure camp programs are geared toward a specific population group (age and/or gender) or activity. Depending on the adventure camp, campers will participate in activities designed specifically for their group. Different adventure camps are offered every week of the summer and are limited to a smaller family group size than the resident camps. Each specific adventure camp activity is staffed by a trained resource person, in addition to the senior counselor(s) assigned to the group. Adventure camps offer opportunities for campers to complete physical challenges, take time for spiritual reflection, learn new skills and make new friends. Campers will also spend time participating in all-camp activities such as campfires and the talent show. Adventure campers may be housed in cabins, lodges, tents, or covered outdoor platforms. Cabinmate requests are not necessary for adventure camps.

Tekoa's program and resource staff continually look for ways to improve the adventure camp programs, including scouting new trails, rivers and rocks, allowing the programs to change and advance from year-to-year. Weather conditions also play a factor in deciding the route or location of an adventure camp activity.

High School Ultimate Challenge

tentsUltimate Challenge brings out the best in every camper! Ultimate Challenge is a non-stop, fun-filled week where high school campers participate in a variety of water, rock, rope and trail activities. Campers begin the week getting to know one another while they tube down the headwaters of the French Broad River. After returning to camp, their evening is filled with instruction and preparation for their next three-day/two-night backpacking trip in Pisgah National Forest. Once campers return from the trail they will attempt Tekoa's high ropes course and big zipline. This time spent off the ground will help prepare the campers for one final day in Pisgah National Forest, rock climbing at Looking Glass rock. Campers must be in good physical shape to backpack aprox. 5-7 miles per day on the backpacking trip.  Campers will sleep in a covered shelter while they are at camp.  For more specific information regarding this week at camp, and an additional What To Pack list, please click here.

High School Water Adventure

canoestackWhether you are an experienced boater or are exploring new interests, this is the adventure for you! HS Water Adventure is a step up from the MS Water Adventure. There is no prerequisite for this adventure camp, simply the desire to have FUN in the water! Instructors teach water safety and proper paddling techniques. Campers start the week with a two-day paddle trip and campout on the French Broad river. This prepares them for the remaining three days of canoeing on local exciting rivers such as the Green, the French Broad, or the Tuckaseegee. Campers also spend one day whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River. For more specific information regarding this week at camp, and an additional What To Pack list, please click here.

Campers will spend two-days/two-nights backpacking, followed by two-days and nights canoeing and camping along the French Broad river. The expedition will finish with a caving trip in Worley’s Cave in East Tennessee. High School Survivor

kidsjumpingMuch like the TV show, survivor campers engage in group challenges and competitions in order to earn supplies and valuable equipment throughout the week. This high school camp will have programs geared toward the camper’s specific age group. Activities are different from the MS Survivor camp. Campers live at a primitive campsite where they master the skills of making fires, preparing food, and navigating through nature. During the evening council meeting, campers vote on the “ultimate survivor!” For more specific information regarding this week at camp, and an additional What To Pack list, please click here.
